Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 6, 2026
TL;DR: EchoTune processes your voice locally on your Mac by default. We don't collect, store, or transmit your audio recordings or transcriptions. Your data stays on your device.
Our Commitment to Privacy
EchoTune was built with privacy as a core principle. We believe voice data is deeply personal, and you should have complete control over it. That's why we designed EchoTune to process everything locally on your device by default.
What Data We Don't Collect
- Audio Recordings: Your voice recordings are never sent to our servers. They are processed locally and immediately discarded after transcription.
- Transcriptions: The text generated from your voice stays on your device. We never see it.
- Usage Patterns: We don't track what you say, when you use the app, or how often.
- Personal Information: We don't require accounts, emails, or personal information to use EchoTune.
Local Processing
When you use EchoTune's default local AI models (Whisper), all transcription happens entirely on your Mac:
- Audio is captured by your microphone
- The local AI model processes the audio on your device
- Text is generated and inserted into your application
- Audio data is immediately discarded—it is never stored
Optional Cloud Models
EchoTune offers optional cloud-based transcription through third-party services (Groq and Deepgram). If you choose to use these services:
- You provide your own API key—we never see it
- Audio is sent directly from your device to the service provider
- We don't intercept, store, or process this data
- You are subject to the privacy policies of those services
You can find their privacy policies here:
AI Enhancement (Optional)
If you enable AI Enhancement to improve your transcriptions:
- Text (not audio) may be sent to OpenAI or Anthropic using your own API key
- We never see or store this data
- You control when and if this feature is enabled
License Activation
When you purchase and activate EchoTune:
- Your license key is stored locally on your device in the macOS Keychain
- We verify the license key with our activation server (one-time, anonymous check)
- We don't collect personal information during this process
App Store Purchases
If you purchase through the Mac App Store, your transaction is handled entirely by Apple. We don't receive or store any payment information.
Analytics
EchoTune does not include any third-party analytics, tracking, or telemetry. We don't use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or any similar services.
Crash Reports
If you opt-in to Apple's crash reporting, anonymized crash data may be sent to Apple. This is controlled by your macOS settings, not by EchoTune.
Data Export
You can export all locally stored data (transcription history, settings, statistics) from within the app at any time. This data is stored only on your device.
Children's Privacy
EchoTune is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or our website.
